DJ James Carstensen has been into all aspects of sound editing since he was eighteen but it wasn’t until purchasing his first set of turntables at the age of twenty did he realise his potential as a DJ. It wasn’t long before he was hitting up residencies in various nightspots across Australia before moving to Japan in 2005. His eclectic tastes developed during his lounge DJ days playing electro, house, hip-hop, acid-jazz and deep house bring a fresh and unique style to his club performances.
James has guest DJed numerous clubs across Tokyo such as Warehouse, Womb and Velours as well as and private events for clients including Sony and the British Embassy. His recent projects include his ‘Neon Noise’ party (electro/house/techno) at Ultra Lounge Roppongi and Tokyo Electro, a project aimed at organising events and promoting the electro scene in Tokyo. On the production front James has released several bootlegs and is increasingly incorporating live elements into his sets, from sampling to improv sessions with live musicians throughout Tokyo. His eccentric style, love of vinyl and for sharing his music with the crowd make him a bona fide floor filler.
DJ James Carstensen18歳のとき音に夢中になりながらも始めたDJは音に堅実なDJだった。本物のDJとして自分の可能性を実現出来たと言えるのは、20歳のときに自分のターンテーブルの購入してからだったと思うと、James Carstensen語る。2005年に来日来日以前、オーストラリア中の様々なナイトスポットでエレクトロ、ハウス、ヒップホップ、アシッドジャズ、ディープハウスなど幅広いジャンルの音楽を斬新でユニークに独自のクラブパーフォーマンスでプレイし、ラウンジDjから、最短でレジデンシーへと抜擢される。
東京ではWOMBやWAREHOUSE702などの名高いクラブにてゲストとして招聘され、SONYや英国大使館主催のプライベートパーティーでのDJとしても活躍している。最近、自身で東京へエレクトロミュージックシーンを推進するためのプロジェクト「Tokyo Electro」を立ち上げ音楽のみならず多方面へも精力的に活動。六本木のUltra Loungeにて’Neon Noise’ party (electro/house/techno) の主催も務めている。プロデューサーとしては東京にて活躍している音楽家とセッションを改善するサンプリングからいくつかの海賊版をリリース。今日ますます躍進するDJ James Carstensenのエキセントリックにダンスフロアをロックするプレイに酔いしれよう！
